Mill Barns wedding photography – Vicki & Ben’s amazing wedding day

I really really don’t know where to start with this wedding, and with this couple. I absolutely LOVE them!! From the moment we met up back in May for their engagement shoot, I remember I came home absolutely buzzing, looking forward so much to their wedding. Their Mill Barns wedding was my penultimate of the year, and so it seemed like it was a long wait til we got to meet up again back in October for their wedding day! Vicki & Ben are just SO much fun, perfect for one another and definitely don’t take themselves too seriously, which meant that I knew their wedding day was going to be like one long party!

My day started with Vicki and her hens, getting their hair and makeup done away from the venue, although we soon headed over to the Mill Barns. The venue itself was amazing, almost like a floating extravagant log cabin although that description really doesn’t do it justice. The events team were working their magic adding fairy lights and vivid flower arrangements, making the whole place into a Disney princess’s dream (Vicki has a slightly unhealthy obsession with Disney…although I’m not sure there can ever be too much Disney!!) The Mill Barns preparation room was amazing – so much room, so many mirrors and I captured so many awesome shots of Vicki and her Bride Squad, including her two very cute flower girls. It was no surprise that her bridesmaids were as much fun as Vicki was, and the whole morning was just full of laughter and excitement. When it was time for Vicki to get her gorgeous wedding dress on there was plenty of emotion on show from them all, and this was only added to when her father saw her for the first time. With the addition of the veil and the bridesmaids checking Vicki’s incredible train for the final time, it was time to head over to the church where the ceremony was going to take place.

Meanwhile, my second photographer was busy capturing Ben and his groomsmen getting ready and greeting the guests into the church. It’s fair to say that there was an even mix of excitement and nerves by the groom but mostly he was just keen to see his future wife walk down the aisle. The ceremony itself was very traditional, and in my opinion, this made it even more special and romantic than a normal service. Vicki & Ben were both just beaming the whole time, as were their families and it really was a celebration which involved everyone. Readings by family and friends made it extra special and soon it was time for the newlyweds to walk down the aisle as husband and wife.

There wasn’t a lot of space outside the church, but Vicki & Ben really wanted a confetti shot just with the bridal party which looked amazing – the confetti seemed to hang in the air for a second and then all just drop at once on the happy couple – the photos are awesome! After this, the couple greeted all their guests coming out of the church and then with the wedding party safely piled into the rather impressive Hummer Limousine, Vicki & Ben took a few moments outside the church in the sunshine to themselves to reflect on their marriage, before heading off back to the Mill Barns for the amazing reception!

At the Mill Barns wedding venue, the reception was in full swing when Vicki & Ben arrived and they spent time then to chat with their guests and relax after the formalities of the morning. It was also an opportunity to make the most of the amazing venue, and capture some beautiful couple shots around the grounds. We headed back to the main venue and the couple made the most of the outdoor decking area by organising a huge confetti tunnel with all their guests, before inviting everyone to take their seats ready for the wedding breakfast. With everyone seated the newlyweds were introduced to the main hall and took part in a wedding tradition, being presented with bread, salt and a shot of vodka! The couple then took their seats to rapturous applause and the speeches were held before the meal. Vicki’s father’s speech was hilarious, plenty of embarrassing stories and momentos from her childhood, and Ben’s speech was a perfect mix of love and humour. Ben’s best man brought the house down with his speech, so funny, but still full of affection for the couple.

Luckily, Vicki & Ben had absolute confidence in my ideas and visions, and this meant throughout the evening we captured some AMAZING shots – from the silhouette shots at the end of the hall during the meal (some more romantic than others eh Ben, lol!) to the Cinderella shot that Vicki had been desperate for on the steps into the venue (again, Ben did his best to make this less romantic, and more likely to end up in A&E as his method of getting ‘Cinderella’s’ attention was to go to lob the shoe at her head!!) All through the evening there was opportunity after opportunity for me to capture beautiful and memorable moments, from Vicki’s dance with her father, Vicki & Ben’s first dance, the dance floor which was bouncing the whole night and evening shots outside from across the lake.

Vicki & Ben, I still don’t think that my write up has done justice to your amazing day, or put into words just how much I love you both! You guys are flippin’ awesome, perfect for each other and such a laugh to be around, I was genuinely gutted when your day was over!! Congratulations, you guys deserve a lifetime of happiness!
