I absolutely LOVE the Lake District. It really is one of the most stunning places in the UK, and when Lydia & Ben booked me for their wedding at Holbeck Ghyll I really couldn’t wait. Driving up on the night before, the weather was promising to be absolutely awesome and when I arrived at the venue on Saturday morning it looked just stunning in the sunshine, with Lake Windermere in the background. Preparations were in full swing as I met the bridal party, and it was a real family affair, with her two sisters being bridesmaids. Lydia’s best friend was maid-of-honour, and her parents both there too! Meanwhile, I wondered down to meet the boys who started the day with a (friendly/competitive) game of tennis, and games and competition popped up throughout the day so clearly Ben was a man after my own heart and although I loved capturing all the photos during them, I was secretly gutted to be missing out on all the rivalry! I returned to the aptly named ‘Miss Porter’ suite to a hive of activity, as there was hair, make up, and dresses to sort. Lydia looked amazing in her gorgeous wedding dress, and it was soon time to head to the church for the wedding ceremony.
With a few last-minute adjustments of the dress, Lydia was ready to walk down the aisle with her father, both looking as happy and proud as Ben was at the front of the church. The ceremony was lovely, with readings and hymns making it a real event, and then it was time for some confetti and a few group shots outside the church before heading to the gorgeous Holbeck Ghyll. Ben & Lydia had planned a relaxed, informal reception and it worked just perfectly with the venue and the weather. Imagine lawn games, picnic rugs, sunbathing, fire pit, cool drinks, laughter…and you’ve pretty much pictured the whole afternoon. We even managed to have the speeches outside!
The newlyweds had arranged for some live music, when meant people were tempted to leave the balmy summer evening into the marquee, to dance the night away. With a swift change of clothes and lots of hugs and kisses, Mr & Mrs Harvey left the party in full swing, heading off to start their married life together.
Ben & Lydia your wedding was awesome! Thank you SO much for giving me an excuse to head up the M6 to visit one of my favourite places, and for organising such a fab, chilled out summer wedding – it really was a pleasure to capture it. I wish you a lifetimes of happiness together.
