Heather & Matt’s stunning Lakeside Wedding Photography

Where do I start with this wedding?! Literally a beautiful day from start to finish, helped by one the many glorious wall-to-wall sunny days we’ve been blessed with this summer, but Heather & Matt’s day was awesome because of THEM, their family and friends (…and add in a couple of gorgeous whippets and a horse and I’m a happy man!) My day started capturing Heather and her bridal party getting ready, such an exciting part of the wedding and I always feel very honoured to be able to witness it. Heather’s dress was beautiful with so much detailing – the back was just gorgeous, and she looked absolutely stunning in it! Meanwhile, Matt and his groomsmen were busy getting last minute preparations sorted – most importantly there was the small matter of making sure the happy couple’s whippets – Hugo and Walter – were ready for their starring role as ringbearers. As a complete dog-lover, I do think their bowties were possibly the cutest thing I’ve seen! You might think that after the dogs it would have been Matt who then was the centre of attention but no, that honour went to the groom’s beloved MK1 golf which was fully adorned with ‘Just Married’ bunting and tin cans ready for the newlyweds! With the groomsmen safely at the church and all their guests ready, it was time for Heather and her Dad to travel in style (always handy if your husband-to-be works for Bentley!) and arrive at the church with the sun shining.

The church setting was beautiful and the service was too. Matt’s face, trying to compose himself, when he saw Heather walking down the aisle just showed how happy he was and how made for each other they are. Matt & Heather exchanged their vows and rings in front of all their friends and family (even if Hugo & Walter seemed to fall asleep during the most important parts of the ceremony!!) and with the marriage register signed it was time for the newlyweds to walk down the aisle and head back out into the glorious sunshine as husband and wife. So much happened between leaving the church and the happy couple setting off to the reception venue it’s hard to know where to start – gorgeous couple shots, amazing confetti tunnel, Hugo & Walter totally rocking their photographs (!) and then Heather’s horse was there to congratulate the happy couple too! Pause for breath and then it was time to head to the reception venue!!

The location of the reception venue was always going to provide a pretty stunning backdrop for Heather & Matt’s wedding but I don’t even think they could have dared to believe that they would have a day quite so perfect for a lakeside wedding – honestly, it was just absolutely spot on! Rudyard Lake was breathtaking, and the venue literally on the lake side meant that guests could enjoy the warm summer day well into the evening too, with the beautiful background music from the pianist.

The jetty also provided some of my most favourite shots of the summer so far…as well as that added element of “what WILL I do if anyone falls in while I’m taking their photograph…?!” But luckily no-one did, and neither did I, and I guess I need to say a massive thank you to everyone who dared the rather precarious walk out onto the water!

The speeches are another part of the wedding day that I always feel honoured to witness. It doesn’t matter whether they are short or long, funny or heartfelt, I always think about the effort that people put into preparing for them, and I absolutely love people’s reactions to them. On my desk in my office I have a picture of my wife looking at me while I’m making my speech 10 years ago at our wedding, and it means SO much to me, and it is a constant reminder of the emotions of the day, and I always want to make sure that my couples have memories like that. The love between Heather & Matt was so evident, and I’m glad that they managed to sneak away for a few minutes to enjoy some time alone (well, alone except for me with a camera….but I think it was worth it!)

The day seemed to fly by and soon it was time for the tasty hog roast, ice creams, cake cutting and first dance. With the light fading, I managed to sneak Mr & Mrs Farrell away to the lake for one last quick photo shoot while the sunset was absolutely insane – again, some of my favourite shots of the summer easily! Heather & Matt thank you so much for inviting me to capture your chilled out, relaxed, lakeside wedding photography – you guys were ace to work with and if your marriage is anything like your wedding day, you are in for a lifetime of happiness. Congratulations! 🙂
