I love nothing more than getting to photograph couples more than just once so I was thrilled when Rachel & Jake asked me to be their West Mill wedding photographer – having previously taken photos of their gorgeous boy for a Bump to Baby shoot. The West Mill is such a great venue, for couples, guests and for photographers so I knew that it was going to be an awesome day! By the time I arrived the bridal party were making full use of The Mill House, the exclusive accommodation at the West Mill which is perfect for brides to get ready with only a short walk to where the dressing room and ceremony takes place. It was a full house with Rachel’s family and bridal party, and a few children thrown into the mix too. Very wisely however, the men were enlisted with the job of burning off the kids’ energy at the playground whilst final preparations were underway (don’t worry, the children didn’t get into their wedding outfits until after that!) With Rachel looking a million dollars, there was a last minute hiccup as it was realised that the veil had been left over at The Mill House – luckily her sister volunteered to pop back across to The Mill House to get it so crisis was averted! Again, another plus point at staying on site – a very short dash across for anything that is forgotten!
With groom and guests in place, it was time for the ceremony to take place in The Cotton Quarter. With Rachel and Jake’s son playing an important role of ringbearer he looked so proud to walk down the aisle – and was very keen to show his daddy his button hole when he reached him! Adorably, he wanted to stay with Jake as Rachel started to walk down the aisle – look out for the gorgeous shot of him, having walked towards Rachel, looking back at Jake as if to say “have you SEEN how pretty Mummy looks today?!” So cute! The
The perks of being a West Mill wedding photographer is the wide and varied options you have for more formal portrait shots – and the stunning backdrops that are available for all the documentary photographs too; just perfect! After the ceremony, the guests were able to enjoy their drinks reception within the courtyard and lower floor of the West Mill while the newlyweds took the opportunity to catch a moment with the bridal party. Returning to The Dressing Room Rachel & Jake presented their mums and bridesmaids with their presents – a really lovely idea as it was really personal and, as expected, very emotional. After this it was time for group shots and a few couple portraits too – with everyone braving the cold before heading inside for the wedding breakfast. During this time I managed to capture some close ups of all the gorgeous details that Rachel & Jake had included – and the sunlight was sneaking in through the windows highlighting some of them absolutely beautifully. Following the speeches I made the most of fading sunlight and got the bridal party and groomsmen outside for some really fun shots, again with the scenery making my job very easy – even if the best man was slightly taken out by a pile of logs…he styled it out well though!
The party that started following the cake cutting and first dance was epic and very much still in full swing when I left the happy couple. It is always an honour to be asked to photograph any couple’s wedding but Rachel & Jake’s special day really did feel like attending a friends’ wedding day. So a massive thank you to all of Rachel & Jake’s family and friends who helped make their day absolutely epic, and particular thanks to you Rachel & Jake, I had an absolute blast, it was a privilege, and I know you two will be making each other as happy as you did on your wedding day, for the rest of your lives.
