Sophie & Mark’s awesome rustic mill wedding photography

Any wedding that involves a weekend away with the wife, child-free, is always going to be one of my most anticipated weddings of the year, and it’s safe to say that this was one wedding I had been looking forward to since Sophie & Mark booked me back in January 2018! It also meant a trip back up to Yorkshire, our second home, and an opportunity to catch up with old friends back from when we used to live up there – all in the glorious sunshine that made its appearance for the whole Easter weekend – just pure bliss!

The wedding day started in a Travelodge on the M1 (oh the glamour!) after travelling up late the night before, but you will be pleased to know the day only got better from then on! I headed to Sophie and Mark’s house where the bridal party were busy getting ready – hair was being done by a very talented friend of Sophie’s and there was military precision timing for everything and it was all definitely on schedule. Seriously, it was the most organised wedding prep I had seen in a long while, even the couple’s son managed a massive 2 hour nap to get prepped for the busy day ahead bless him! Sophie’s bridesmaids were her and Mark’s daughters, and Sophie’s Brighouse sisters and there was so much excitement and happiness, and rightly so – if anyone deserves a ‘happily ever after’ it’s Sophie!

With Mark getting ready just round the corner I was able to pop round to see how his prep was going, and I think it’s safe to say that he was a bit nervous! It was lovely to capture the precious moments of him helping their son to get dressed in his super cute outfit, as well as capture him with his best man (also called Mark!) and the rest of his grooms tribe!

The venue itself looked stunning in the sunshine, with its woodland surroundings and rustic interior needing only a few personal touches (made by a very talented friend, check out his link in the suppliers list) to give it the absolute WOW factor, and it was lovely to see all their friends and family gathering there, eagerly waiting for the ceremony. The ceremony room was buzzing as the doors opened for Sophie to walk down the aisle, and it was time for the ceremony to start.

It was, quite simply, a beautiful ceremony. So much love, romance, laughter, jokes and plenty of tears. Their daughters’ poem pretty much made everyone cry, and Sophie & Mark’s vows definitely finished everyone off! Their smiles said it all as they walked down the aisle as Mr & Mrs Edgar, so happy, and very ready to celebrate for the rest of the day! In the venue there was plenty of space for guests to relax during the drinks reception both inside and out (which was good, as it was SO hot!) so Sophie & Mark were able to have some group photographs while everyone mingled and enjoyed the acoustic band.

The events team at the venue did an amazing job transforming the ceremony room ready for the afternoon tea which was absolutely incredible! The guests enjoyed the food whilst trying their hand at the infamous “Graeme’s Quiz” which is a staple at any big Brighouse gathering (I’m fairly sure our table won….!) Following on from food it was time for the speeches which were much like the ceremony – a perfect blend of humour, romance and tears. After vowing that he would not do a best man speech, Mark surprised the couple by taking the mic and delivering a hilarious and heartfelt speech, helped out at the end by his daughters, Sophie’s bridesmaids.  A proper family affair 🙂

The evening was still gloriously hot and there was plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sunshine while the evening guests arrived and the big room was opened out for the band to set up and a dancefloor to be created. We were able to have some mini photo shoots just with Sophie & Mark, and, despite nettle stings and dress malfunctions (and a lot of derision from old friends who clearly don’t have the same vision that I do haha), we got some awesome shots around the grounds, before heading in for the first dance and the party to really start. It’s safe to say that Sophie & Mark’s family and friends know how to party (particularly the WDS!) – plenty of awesome dance shot, involving ties, hula hoops and other acrobatics which hopefully will provide many happy memories (or reminders!) for all the guests.

What a day! What a couple! And what an awesome start to Sophie & Mark’s, Phoebe, Lucy & Charlie’s happily ever after. Surrounding by family and friends, all who could not be happier for them, it really was one of my favourite weddings ever! Congratulations guys, you did it, and you deserve a lifetime of happiness together!
